Often the space available in the home for the bathroom is really small but it is still necessary to comply with the minimum dimensional requirements established by the legislation.
But how do you manage to furnish a small bathroom respecting the building regulations and still achieving an aesthetically satisfactory result?
What are the minimum dimensions of a bathroom?
The D.M. July 5, 1975 establishes the rules for the construction of a bathroom in accordance with the law: the first bathroom (or the only one if there is only one bathroom in the house) must comply with the minimum dimensional requirements in order to be in accordance with the law.
The minimum size of the room is left to the municipal regulation and, consequently, varies according to the Municipality in which the bathroom is built: for example, in the Municipality of Milan, the minimum surface area of the bathroom is 3.5 square meters for an apartment. of floor area of less than 70 square meters.
The same decree also establishes the indispensable elements that must not be missing in the bathroom and, specifically, the toilet, bidet, sink, shower or bathtub must necessarily be installed. These elements must absolutely be present in the first bathroom but may not be installed in the second bathroom instead.
Furthermore, in the first bathroom it is necessary to have a window while in the second bathroom it is possible to opt for a ventilation system.
In every bathroom, regardless of whether it is the first bathroom, it is necessary to have minimum distances between the fixtures, dictated by the comfort of use and safety: if the toilet and bidet are positioned side by side, there must be 20 cm of distance between the elements, if they are instead facing each other, a minimum space of 55 cm must be guaranteed. Similarly, between the toilet or bidet and the side walls it is necessary to keep 20 cm of space.
Maintaining these minimum distances is necessary to have proper mobility within the bathroom.
