Philippe Starck, the king of design

Posted on2019-06-20 1373

The French designer Philippe Starck worked with Duravit to create the most famous sanitaryware collections. The best known are ME by Starck, Cape Code, Starck 1, Starck 2 and Starck 3.

Born in 1949, French by birth and Italian-Portuguese by adoption, Philippe Starck spends his life between a small port near Lisbon and the picturesque island of Burano.

From an early age, young Philippe breathed an air of creativity: his father was an aircraft builder, while his mother gave him a poetic vision of the world and an elegant lifestyle. Just the mother advised Philippe to study design at the Ecole Nissim de Camondo in Paris, immediately realizing the great potential of his son.

Philippe Starck took his first steps as a designer creating inflatable objects but the real springboard came in 1983 with the design of the furniture for the private rooms of French President François Mittenrand at the Elysee Palace. It is from here that his sparkling career begins which, in a short time, will lead him to be a world-famous designer.

Philippe Starck is an inexhaustible source of ideas ranging from furnishing objects such as chairs and sofas, passing through restaurants, hotels, watches, private residences and slippers (yes, the very famous Ipanema!).

Last but not least, the flourishing and increasingly creative collaboration with Duravit.

Cupid's arrow between Starck and Duravit was released in 1994: it was love at first sight but it laid the foundations for a stable, lasting and very profitable relationship.

Philippe Starck says of Duravit: “I have always said that the bathroom has to become a damp living room. But nobody understood me. Up to Duravit. This is why I love Duravit ”.

One of the most successful collections that has furnished the bathrooms of many Italian families and is not "ME by Starck". It is a modern and timeless series: Starck and Duravit have done an extremely refined job to create well-proportioned shapes that are not dominant in the environment. This leaves free space for the individuality and personal planning of each landlord.

The sober and minimal design is perfectly suited to the needs of a large number of customers and furnishings.

The ME series by Starck is an extremely complete collection: toilets and bidets are available both suspended and on the floor and the washbasins satisfy many furnishing and space needs: console and built-in washbasins, basins and hand basins are available, all of different sizes.

Almost all wall-hung toilet models have rimless rimless flushing technology.
