How to treat porcelain stoneware tiles

Marazzi and Mariner: the leaders in porcelain stoneware

Marazzi and Mariner, both leaders in the porcelain stoneware tile sector, have a vast range of very high quality tiles which however require some precautions in maintenance and cleaning.

Porcelain stoneware is a durable and resistant material that in recent years has been increasingly used for domestic and commercial floors and coverings for those who want to give a modern style to their environments. To keep porcelain stoneware clean and always in excellent condition, it is good to keep in mind some tips to follow for cleaning and correct treatment of the material.

The importance of cleaning good porcelain stoneware

Daily cleaning of stoneware is very important, you must always start by removing dirt and dust using a broom or vacuum cleaner which however is equipped with soft bristles to avoid any scratches on the surface.

Once the first layer of dirt has been removed, it is a good idea to move on to a more intense cleaning using hot water and neutral detergent. With this type of flooring it is in fact not recommended to use waxes, brighteners and abrasive detergents in general as they could ruin the surface of the floor in the long run.

If the floor is stained or particularly dirty, specific detergents suitable for porcelain stoneware are recommended. Absolutely avoid ammonia or vinegar, because, contrary to popular belief, in addition to removing the stain, it would permanently damage the finish of the porcelain stoneware.

In any case, the advice is always to test on a small portion of tiles before using a new product that we are not familiar with.

Once the mixture of detergent solution and water has been prepared, it is recommended to apply it to the floor with the help of a microfibre cloth or a mop and spread it evenly. Once this step has been carried out, a clean cloth moistened with water is passed to remove any detergent residues.

Once cleaning has been completed, it is important to dry the surface of the stoneware very carefully with a soft cloth. This step serves to avoid the creation of rings or water stains.

To preserve and protect the natural finish of porcelain stoneware over time, it is advisable to apply a specific sealant for ceramic floors at least once a year. In this way a protective layer will form on the surface of the tiles which will immediately be made more resistant to stains and consequently making daily cleaning easier.

The importance of quality:

It is worth noting that the higher the quality of the tiles, the easier it is to clean and maintain them. For this reason we always recommend choosing high quality porcelain stoneware such as Marazzi tiles.
