The "selections" of parquet

The skill in the art of parquet production consists in being able to obtain wooden planks with a selection that is as uniform as possible.

This is because wood is a natural material, rich in facets and imperfections and, for this reason, each wooden strip is unique.

The function of parquet selection is to amplify or reduce these natural differences.

The homogeneous selection is particularly suitable for modern environments while a lively or rustic selection can be suitable for vintage or shabby chic environments.

Regardless of the selection chosen, it is precisely all the facets that determine the natural beauty of the parquet: the mirrors, for example, give the parquet a slightly shiny appearance

Even small and large knots together with the chromatic alterations due to the age of the wood itself are able to give a particular character to the parquet plank.

Bauwerk classifies all the individual wooden planks in a selection index on the basis of their characteristics, an indicator of fundamental importance for determining the aesthetics of the wooden floor

Specifically, parquet is classified with numbers from 1 to 6, which place the single blade in a specific category, from the most uniform to the most rustic:

1 – very quiet, uniform
2 – calm, balanced
3 – slightly lively
4 – naturally lively
5 – full of character, very lively
6 – very lively, rustic

For example, a parquet with "selection 13" indicates that all woods with characteristics between 1 and 3 can be present inside.

Homogeneous selection parquet
The homogeneous selection is characterized by a linear parquet, with few knots and small dimensions. It is possible that there are slight mirrorings which however do not alter the uniformity of the selection.

It is possible that there is a slight shading that highlights the charm of real wood.

It is a parquet widely used in modern environments but which is well suited to any type of environment.

Lively parquet selection
A "lively" selection is characterized by a parquet with larger knots, mirrors and more evident sapwood parts with a more marked play of colors and structure.

The natural character of the wood is emphasized: it is a parquet suitable for industrial and modern environments and in general for all lovers of more "aged" wood.

Rustic selection parquet
Even more particular is the selection of rustic parquet, characterized by large and marked knots and a very intense play of color as well as a marked mirroring.
