Cleaning at the end of the construction site: correct cleaning of the tiles

Posted on2022-05-04 866

Following the laying of the tiles, it is of fundamental importance to clean the surfaces to eliminate the grout and dirt residues that can create halos.

Often the cleaning at the end of the construction site is an operation that is underestimated due to the tight timing of the construction site but it is a fundamental step that then ensures simpler routine maintenance and avoids the presence of unsightly streaks.

The importance of cleaning at the end of the construction site for tiles

It basically involves the removal of laying residues and scraps and ensures that the grout and dust do not adhere definitively to the surfaces, affecting normal daily cleaning.

In any case, it is a good idea to remove excess grout already during the first installation, before it dries: tile manufacturers usually recommend grouting the joints 4-5 m2 at a time so as to be able to quickly clean the residues with a sponge soaked in water.

Cleaning at the end of the construction site is important for all surfaces but in particular for floors and above all for external surfaces, rough and structured, where subsequent cleaning would be even more difficult.

The choice of the type of product to use depends on the type of grout used: in the most common case, cement grout, the cleaner to be used at the end of the construction site is based on buffered acid. In the event that numerous whitish halos have formed, it is possible to use a more aggressive product that also contains surfactants and phosphoric acid or, if the tiles appear very dirty and opaque or if a long time has passed since installation, it is possible to use a product professional degreaser.

To eliminate residues when the grout is dry in most cases, it is necessary to use a real acid such as Mapei's Keranet acid-based cleaner.

The post-laying cleaning of the tiles at the end of the construction site must be carried out by proceeding 2 m2 at a time, wetting the tiles and then applying the detergent applied, diluted according to the instructions.

The detergent is then left to act for the indicated time and you can then proceed to remove the dirt residues with a simple dirt or absorbent paper.

The final rinse must be done with clean water.

In any case, the washing at the end of the construction site must be carried out by qualified personnel, such as the installer or the construction company that carried out the work.

After washing at the end of the construction site, the floors and coverings will be perfectly clean and free of streaks and, to keep the appearance unchanged, routine maintenance without special precautions will be sufficient.
