Irsap Tesi radiators: how to size them correctly

Posted on2022-04-30 817

Irsap Tesi element radiators are among the most used in both renovations and new buildings.

To have an efficient heating system, it is of fundamental importance that both the heat generator (typically the boiler, but also the heat pump) and the system terminals (radiators or fan coils) are sized correctly.

The radiators are able to release a certain thermal power (expressed in Watts) depending on their height, the number of columns in depth and the number of elements in width: it is necessary to understand how many Watts are needed to heat a certain environment to proceed to correct sizing.

In addition to the volume of the room to be heated, other factors must also be considered, such as the energy class of the building, the climatic zone in which the radiator will be installed and the type of environment in which it will be used (living area or sleeping area).

With the same volume, in fact, the sizing of a radiator that will be installed in Aosta is very different compared to one that will be installed in Palermo and in the same way, the sizing of the radiators for a building in Energy Class A or for an apartment will be very different. not insulated.

Usually it is the thermotechnician who takes care of calculating and sizing the heating system by considering all the various environmental and structural factors of the building.

Sizing of radiators and energy saving

Another factor to consider is the result to be obtained in terms of performance, consumption and savings on the bill: this aspect is particularly affected by the heat generator used and its delivery temperature.

Until a few years ago, heating systems were built with traditional boilers, with a flow temperature of around 70 degrees.

The traditional boilers were then replaced by condensing boilers, characterized by low nitrogen oxide emissions and the possibility of having the supply water at a maximum temperature of 50 degrees while maintaining the heating performance unchanged.

The thermal outputs of Irsap Tesi radiators are in fact declared on the basis of the temperature difference between the flow to the system and the return from the system itself (ΔT): for example, ΔT 50 ° means that the boiler flow temperature is 70 ° C (traditional boilers) and the return temperature from the system is 20 ° C.

For maximum energy savings and in terms of consumption, it is advisable to use the condensing boiler with a maximum delivery temperature of 50 degrees, a possible intervention considering the entire body of the building and carrying out appropriate wall insulation work.

Another trick that can be used to maximize energy savings is to use thermostatic valves and relative thermostatic heads on each radiator: these devices, available at low cost, are able to maintain a preset temperature in the environment, closing the valve when the desired temperature is reached in order to optimize the system and save money.
