Bathroom sanitary ware: suspended or on the floor?

Posted on2022-04-28 180

The installation of suspended or floor-mounted sanitary ware is one of the first choices to make when deciding to renovate your bathroom.

Based on how they are installed, the sanitary ware can be divided into:

- SUSPENDED SANITARY WARE: they are fixed to the rear wall and remain detached from the floor

- GROUND SANITARY: they are placed on the floor and are the most traditional bathroom fixtures, even if over time they have been subject to constant evolution.

Suspended sanitary ware: pros and cons

In the trends of recent years, suspended sanitary ware has made its way more and more, especially in new buildings where it is easy to install a completely hidden built-in cistern and an elegant and minimal flush plate.

One of the main advantages of using suspended sanitary ware is linked to the aesthetic factor: leaving the floor "free", the suspended sanitary ware helps to create depth in the environment and increase the brightness of the room thanks to the larger surface of the reflective floor.

Another advantage is the convenience of cleaning because, by remaining detached from the ground, they allow you to clean the floor under the sanitary fixtures more simply, guaranteeing the possibility of eliminating germs and bacteria more easily.

Thanks to the special brackets that must be used for fixing, they guarantee the tightness and safety of users because they are designed to withstand a load of up to 400 kg.

However, suspended sanitary ware also has disadvantages.

If we are in the course of a renovation, for example, it is good to keep in mind that the drainage system necessary for suspended sanitary ware is completely different from that of floor-mounted sanitary ware: in fact, the drain is located on the wall, behind the toilet and, if you do not want to modify the existing floor system, it is not possible to install suspended sanitary ware.

Furthermore, in some cases, the thickness of the walls of the house is not sufficient to install the suspended sanitary ware, which require an adequate depth for the insertion of brackets and built-in cistern so as to make it necessary to create a counter-wall which inevitably reduces. the space available in the bathroom.

Floor sanitary ware: pros and cons

The floor-standing sanitary ware is a very traditional solution, adopted for decades without the possibility of other options.

As we said, however, floor-mounted sanitary ware has undergone a great evolution over time and the classic models with exposed water inlet hose have been replaced by the more modern flush-to-wall toilets in which all the pipes are completely hidden in the ceramic.

One of the main advantages of floor-mounted sanitary ware is the possibility of replacing the old sanitary ware without having to carry out any masonry or plumbing work.

In the case of replacing a traditional toilet detached from the wall with floor drain, it is also possible to install a flush-to-wall toilet: in this case we must choose a model with a shifted drain, suitable for renovations.

A toilet with a shifted drain allows it to be installed on the drain of the previous toilet thanks to a particular model of drain curve, specially designed to be able to reach greater distances than a normal back to wall floor toilet.

In general, the costs to be incurred for floor-mounted sanitary ware are lower than those for wall-mounted sanitary ware, both for installation and for subsequent maintenance.

One of the main disadvantages of floor-mounted sanitary ware is that "they have gone a bit out of fashion" even if, with the flush-to-wall version, they have come closer to the taste of architects and designers.

Furthermore, as already mentioned, a suspended sanitary fixture offers greater cleaning possibilities than a floor-standing toilet.

On Acquaclick there is a good range of suspended sanitary ware and floor sanitary ware: the choice is entirely yours and is dictated by your preferences, budget and the type of work to be carried out at home.
